cass making balthazar blush is criminally underrated
i’m talking completely red, tongue tied, can’t breathe
like cass blushing is adorable bc balthazar probably surprised him
but balthazar is always looking at cass like he’s ready to be knocked off his feet
and cass still gets him every single timetheamazingdalet“Well, I almost fainted,” Cass went on matter-of-factly. “Under the circumstances, it’s only natural. I’m sure it’ll pass.”
“That’s right, you– June, how are you?” Balthazar interjected, pulling himself upright anxiously. “Is your fever really gone?”
“You already asked me that,” Cass answered. “I think you’d notice if my fever came back.”
He paused, a wry smile slowly spreading on his face.
“…w-what?” Balthazar felt a flush creeping up his cheeks.
“You haven’t changed one iota either, Balthazar,” Cass announced, almost proudly. “You’re still just a warrior.”
Balthazar blinked, his mouth slightly open. “I’m a… huh?”
Cass seemed confused, then suddenly blushed, clapping a hand over his mouth.
“Oops,” he murmured, smiling. “I meant ‘worrier’.”
theamazingdalettheamazingdaletxenoblade 2 has some excellent calthazar material but it’s meaningless just posting disembodied cutscenes with no plot or emotional context so
guess i’ll cry

theamazingdaletthe problem with anime/jrpg crossovers is that the original protags are very often all ideals and literally zero fact checking
current case in point: i played the first chapter of xenoblade 2 this morning. i’m not ready to sit down and play the whole thing yet but i could SMELL that au a mile away and i wanted to write a little fic about cass and balthazar meeting so
anyways, in the original, rex dies. like just gets straight up murdered. and then pyra offers to bring him back to life if he’ll help her get to elysium (basically the garden of eden)
and rex’s immediate and sole response is just: “wow! if elysium is real then everyone in the world can live in peace and harmony forever! i’ll do it!”
so he’s in.
put cass in the same position and he would LOVE to believe that but he’s still gonna have some major questions first!
and balthazar? balthazar?? oh BOY. like it literally does not matter that the ONLY alternative is he stays dead, his life is over, he is gonna have some direct!! fucking!! questions!! and he’s gonna expect some answers!!
and cass would WANT to give him answers, he’s not just gonna be like, “oh i guess you’d rather be dead then, hmm?”
but since rex didn’t ask and pyra didn’t tell i have nothing to go on!! at least with something like deadman wonderland i have all the answers already and i can change the order and timing of them being doled out, but here i have nothing to work with! i’m just trying to write a fun little fic, c’mon!
anyways @ writers if keeping your major plot points secret involves your main characters literally just not communicating in any meaningful way, even when they’re supposed to be close friends and family, PLEASE reconsider

theamazingdaletincidentally you know balthazar makes atrocious puns like “if you catch my updraft,” the kind that cause people actual physical pain
but cass laughs at every single one and balthazar is just over the moon
the other rito assume cass is just being polite but wish he would stop indulging balthazar so they could get on with their lives
until the day cass busts one out himself, in public, and they’re all horrified
except balthazar, who is about to s C R E A M
theamazingdaletokay if i’m understanding all of two things about the latest ep then
1. the empty has weird creeper doubles who sneer at you, and
2. all dead angels are there
so do they all get creeper doubles? is there some asshole in balthazar’s face trying to tell him “there’s nothing for you back there. he killed you, remember?”
okay you know what? angel afterlife being eternal berating? i believe it
probably started as a military “you failed heaven” type thing bc it’s just not enough for god and/or michael for angels to just DIE
and then it morphs bc surprise! angels can and do care about other things
theamazingdaletTen seconds left on the clock.
Cass and Balthazar are the only ones remaining, the ball safely in Cass’ hands. One last pass and Balthazar’s life will be saved.
Three seconds left, and the floor disappears under Cass’ feet, sending him into the pit.
“Balthazar, catch!” Triumphant smile on his face, he makes the final pass as he falls.
